Redo! is a fan fiction story line based on the popular CGI television series, Reboot.
Reboot was the first television series to to be created entirely in CGI, and followed the adventures of Bob, a guardian sprite, and the inhabitants of Mainframe, a computer system, as they battled against the evil virus Megabyte, and other threats.
The first season of Reboot was fairly nondescript. The stories were episodic and interchangeable. Only the novelty of the series being the first television series to be done completely in CGI made it remarkable over other Children’s fare.
NOTE: The series opening had suggested that Bob was interested in finding out about the user, a god like entity from outside the net who inputs games for pleasure (namely us), but this facet of Bob’s personality was never explored. Bob and the other Mainframers would frequently go in to games and attempt to defeat the user, but Bob’s vow to find out about the user was completely ignored.
The second season of Reboot continued pretty much in the same mould at first. Stories were episodic, and could be easily shuffled without making any difference to the overall story line. As the season progressed however, a bit more character depth was added, and by the end of the season, the format had switched from mere random episodes to a continuing story line. Season two even ended with a cliff-hanger, with Bob becoming trapped in the web, and Megabyte poised to take over Mainframe.
Season three was the best of all the Reboot seasons. It picked up literally from the moment where season two left off, with young Enzo having to take up the duties of system defender. The story continued logically from the end point of season two, then created a new direction with a plot twist. Instead of winning a game, as was the usual formula in Reboot, Enzo, AndrAIa and Frisket lose the game, and become trapped in it. The series then skipped ahead the equivalent of 10 - 15 years. Enzo and AndrAIa, now adults, have learned to use the games as a form of transportation. Enzo, now going under the name Matrix, was outwardly a strong and battle hardened game warrior, but inwardly was a depressed and vulnerable lost soul mourning the world he had left behind, and longing to return home. Season three concentrated heavily on action of character development, and the final showdown between Matrix and Megabyte was nothing short of spectacular. It looked as if Reboot had nowhere to go but up ...
Then came season four.
I do not know who was in charge of season four, but whoever he was, he really screwed it up. Daemon, who was set as the main villain for this season, simply falls flat. Sure she had the ability to destroy the entire net, but as a sweet little French schoolgirl, she simply does not present the threatening presence needed to make her a good villain. The season did not have the character development or emotional depth that season three had. There were a number of retcons and continuity errors that did not help either, and after a series of insipid episodes where the main focus was on “Which version of Bob should Dot marry?”, Megabyte was brought back in a way that not only poses another serious continuity error, but also undermines the story line in season three.
Needless to say, I was not pleased with season four.
Now it happened that in the three or four years that elapsed between the airing of seasons three and four, I came up with my own rough story line. I even considered pitching it to Mainframe productions at one point. In the years since the airing of season four, I have even revealed my story line to a small number of people, and the general consensus of those I have spoken with is that my season four is better, much better.
On this web site, I intend to develop this story line, first with short descriptions of some of the episodes, then a few finished scripts, some story boards, and eventually, I hope, some good CGI illustrations.
